The Cutting
Edge of Medicine by Arthur Rapkin
"To be happy, healthy and live in harmony in this age, one
must shift to"Let's face the facts. The focus of traditional medicine is to
treat disease with drugs and surgeries. This paradigm was developed
primarily in conjunction with the pharmaceutical industry, which happens
to be in staunch support of medical schools, wherein doctors are educated
in techniques to fix, repair and replace. While some doctors may start
out with a good intent to make a difference, high educational costs
coupled with increasing administrative costs have too frequently dictated
bottom-line considerations. These health care providers are now experiencing
rough waters in the health care industry, AND FOR GOOD REASON."
Traditional
Chinese Medicine & Depression -- Part 2 by Zhuoling Ren
"The above conditions are typical examples. Clinically, there
is much more complexity but, if we can use traditional Chinese medicine
theory to analyze each individual case, find the key, the cause, the
body type, establish the syndrome differentiation and set up a correct
treatment plan, the results are usually effective."
Excess Weight
& Obesity A View From Traditional Chinese Medicine by Zhuoling Ren
"We all are aware that diet is essential for weight issues. Traditional
Chinese medicine Dietary Therapy considers several factors about one's
diet. What to eat is most important: light, easy-to-digest food for
those who have a spleen deficiency; and foods that have a warm property
and promote movements of the stomach and intestine are recommended for
those suffering from internal phlegm. Traditional Chinese medicine dietary
therapy not only suggests eating proper foods, but also paying attention
to an eating schedule, eating environment, herbs used in the diet, and
more."
Interviews
The EDGE
Interview with Dr. Jim Sinning on acupuncture, holistic modalities by
Tim Miejan
"Mine began in vet school, at Iowa State, where I graduated in
1998. For me, I recognized in vet school that there were an awful lot
of diseases we could diagnose, but we really couldn't treat. We can
get to a point of, "OK, this is what your dog has, but sorry, we
cannot do anything." I recognized that there was a professor at
the school who did acupuncture, and I started tagging along with her
and seeing firsthand some of the things acupuncture had to offer. So
even at school, I was very interested in what alternative or integrative
medicine had to offer. As soon as I could after school, I took the acupuncture
certification exam and was able to do acupuncture more formally."
Connecting
to Natural Law An introduction to the U.S. Peace Government An interview
with physicist and former presidential candidate John Hagelin by Tim Miejan
"The U.S. Peace Government will offer to the public and to government
scientifically proven programs to effectively prevent problems. These
programs will be offered and administered through 100-200 Peace Palaces
that will bring relief to our nation's stress-ridden cities. These will
be centers for prevention-oriented health education and natural medicine;
for consciousness-based education; for sustainable, organic agriculture;
and for other prevention-oriented programs. In addition, through groups
of peace-creating experts associated with each Peace Palace, the U.S.
Peace Government will help defuse the acute societal stress at the root
of violent behavior, thereby raising the collective consciousness of
the people and bringing national life into accord with Natural Law."
Rising
from the Ashes An Edge Interview with Shamanic Healer Linda Star Wolf
by Kim Oursler
"After 15 years, I started looking for greater ways of healing.
I went to a Sundance, where I learned how to facilitate a sweat lodge.
I developed relationships with medicine men and medicine women and Mayan
Shamans. I learned a great deal and began to integrate it into the mental
health systems that I worked in. I was able to bring it in some, but
not much."
Quotations
"No one should have to choose between medicine and other necessities.
No one should have to use the emergency room every time a child gets
sick. And no one should have to live in constant fear that a medical
problem will become a financial crisis."
~Brad Henry
"Often what is deeply offensive to Chinese-Americans that they
are really well-represented in medicine, and yet on all these doctors'
shows you hardly see any Chinese-American faces."
~Iris Chang
"In an area where nothing was known, medicine had to draw on
social lore."
